Hello!
Remember the Johnny Cash song, I've Been Everywhere Man? That's sort of my story. I've been a
person that always thrived on learning new things. I've studied three distinct fields in my academic journey! B.S.
in Medical Technology from the University of Virginia's College at Wise (UVa-Wise is one of the top 10 public liberal arts
colleges in the nation). Yes I remember General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Immunology,
etc. Whew~~
MBA from ETSU with concentrations in Management and Economics.
Ed.D. from ETSU with a concentration
in Post Secondary/Private Sector Leadership and cognate areas of Management, Economics and Healthcare Administration.
I
started my career farming. Hey, it's the truth. I spent my teen and undergrad years working on the family farm raising tobacco
to pay for my undergrad expenses. I also worked in my cousin's restaurant for extra spending money!!!
I began my journey
in healthcare by working as a medical technologist specializing in hematology. While working on my MBA, I was selected to
become the business manager of the hospital's lab (about a $7-10 million operation). I took care of all financial functions
of the lab from budgeting to purchasing!!!! After that, I moved into a consulting department at the same hospital and worked
with the administrative division and with the emergency and outpatient nursing departments. From that I moved into Materials
Management as an materials management computer specialist. Boom, then came the merger...I was transferred to another hospital
as the Materials Manager and 3 years later was the Corporate Assistant Director and Interim Director. Our materials management
budget was approximately $30 million. Yep, I've done a lot of finance and budgeting!!!
Next my doctoral program...poof,
I left healthcare took the oath of poverty and thanks to my wife's hard work and support completed my doctorate. I've taught
as an adjunct at Northeast State Community College since 1993 and have taught every management course they offer as well as
microeconomics. I've taught as an adjunct at ETSU since 2003 and currently teach statistics as an adjunct in Educational
Leadership. At ETSU I've also taught for the Management and Finance departments. I've taught as an adjunct at Virginia Intermont
College teaching finance and research. I was also Director of Adult Degree Studies at Virginia Intermont for 2 years, a position
similar to a Dean/Associate Dean at most schools.
Now I'm full-time at ETSU. I'm doing what I love, teaching!!!
My
wife and I have been married for more than 18 years, no children, but a wonderful kitty-boy named Rudy and a beautiful kitty-girl
named Sylvia. We love studying Civil War history, and I love music, especially bluegrass and old time music. I also like Motown,
Soul, Classic Rock, but don't really like Country or Opera!!
Probably more than you ever wanted to know, but I don't
have my faculty webpage ready yet, so since you can't learn about me there....
This small website is an example of
what you can do in your Allied Health Classes with the Tripod site. Have fun exploring!
